The Lighthouse |
The Colombo lighthouse which is almost opposite the restaurant provides breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. From its elevated base guarded by four majestic stone carved lions one can see all the way down the Galle Face Green up to the Galle Face Hotel and right across to the very tip of the horizon. It is easily one of the best places in Colombo to see a sunset ideally around 5 or 6 PM. Constructed in the 50's, the lighthouse looks dated compared to the modern high-rise building that adorn Colombo now but it reminds us of a architecture belonging to another era. |
Gun Battery |
Located on the base of the Lighthouse is a naval gun battery that is used by the Sri Lanka Navy for its traditional gun salutes particularly on 4th of February each year when the Independance day is commemorated. By tradition the Navy accords a 25 gun salute to the nation on this day. This is located right opposite the restaurant and the backdrop of the ocean forms an impressive collage to linger. |
Entertainment |
Fridays and Saturdays see the Light House Galley coming alive with music – provided either by the Navy calypso band, jazz band, Solo performances by various artistes or by the beat group of the Navy. Furthermore, the Galley also provides an ideal location for various events and functions as the fine dining and family dining area can accommodate up to 50 and 25 guests respectively |
